CJC-1295 Benefits and Side Effects
Medically reviewed by Leann Poston, M.D. on 9/25/20
CJC-1295 is one of the most promising anti-aging peptides available today. If you haven’t spent much time reading about supplements and medications, however, you might not even know what CJC-1295 is, what it is used for, or about the CJC-1295 benefits and side effects that are associated with the medication. In a nutshell, CJC-1295 can help individuals over the age of 30 to have more energy, a faster metabolism, and stay in better shape as you age. It’s not a hormone itself, so it is a relatively safe and low-risk option when all things are considered. However, it requires a prescription and is delivered via an injection, so there are some important points to cover regarding the CJC-1295 benefits and side effects trade-offs.
To help address those considerations, we’ve put together a brief guide on the basics of CJC-1295. We’ll talk about what it is and how it works in some technical detail, before addressing the really important part (at least for most customers) – what it does and what the side effects may be. CJC-1295 benefits and side effects, as with all medications, may vary by individual, so before we talk specifically about the benefits and side effects, we’ll address a bit of a disclaimer to help ensure you have all the facts and stay safe. Hopefully, by the end of this short guide, you’ll have a better sense of the benefits that CJC-1295 can provide to you and be more confident in discussing or requesting CJC-1295 from your physician, healthcare provider, or telemedicine provider during your next consultation.
The Basics of CJC-1295
Despite the code-like name, CJC-1295 is fairly easy to understand in terms of its function and purpose. It’s classified as a peptide, a small amino acid chain similar to (though smaller than) a protein. Peptides work in different ways, depending on what systems or areas of the body they target. In the case of CJC-1295, it’s a growth hormone secretagogue – that is, it is, in and of itself, not a hormone. Rather, it triggers the secretion of human growth hormone in your body via your pituitary gland.
Human growth hormone is essential for many systems in your body – and regulates far more than just growth. However, after about age 30, the rate of human growth hormone in the body starts to decrease, by as much as 15% per decade. This is one of the natural processes responsible for decreased energy, increased difficulty losing or maintaining weight, decreased muscle mass, increased struggles to build new muscle, compromised healing and immune systems, and much more that are characteristic of “getting older”. Reversing these trends, with human growth hormone itself is fairly dangerous, with significant side effects. Rather than take that route, an anti-aging peptide like CJC-1295 is considered quite safe, since it merely triggers your body’s production of your own natural growth hormone. We’ll address all of these CJC-1295 benefits and side effects in greater detail in their respective sections of our guide below.
CJC-1295 is delivered via a subcutaneous (below the skin) injection, allowing it to be absorbed into the body slowly, and provide a consistent triggering effect on the pituitary gland. It is typically compounded with an equal amount of Ipamorelin, another anti-aging peptide, which has a much shorter period of action and half-life. Essentially, Ipamorelin is the short-term trigger for the pituitary to release growth hormone, whereas the CJC-1295 is a much longer-term trigger (with raised hormone levels for as much as 6 to 10 days after administration).
Disclaimer Regarding CJC-1295 Benefits and Side Effects
Before we proceed to discuss the CJC-1295 benefits and side effects, it’s worth taking a moment to make a brief disclaimer. Every person is unique, and their response to medications, supplements, vitamins, and similar are unique. All of the information included in this guide is based on the collective and reported benefits, side effects, and other aspects of the CJC-1295 medication on the market today. However, that does not mean that every individual will realize all of these particular benefits, or will not experience other, potentially more severe side effects.
As with all medications, it’s best to consult your doctor, physician, healthcare provider, or prescriber prior to beginning or changing a medication regimen. You should discuss your current medications, health conditions, past diseases or disorders, and any concerns you may have prior to starting a CJC-1295 course of therapy. This will help ensure that you don’t have any contraindications for use, and help you better reach your health and fitness goals, with as few side effects as possible.
The first (and arguably most compelling) aspect of addressing the CJC-1295 benefits and side effects is to look at the purported benefits. Specifically, what does CJC-1295 do for you in the anti-aging realm? How does it help you fight the signs and symptoms of aging? What benefits can you expect to see? With deference to our disclaimer above, most people who take CJC-1295 do so for one or more of the following reported benefits:
- Replacing or offsetting any natural human growth hormone deficiency, and augmenting circulating growth hormone levels in the body.
- Boosting energy and metabolism, helping you to feel more energized, take longer to fatigue, and smoothing out the peaks and valleys in energy and blood sugar that are common in our modern life.
- Growth hormone plays an important role in cell regeneration and replication. As a result, increased levels can help wounds and injuries to heal faster and more completely, and boosts in the immune system functioning as well.
- Building lean muscle mass gets harder with age. CJC-1295 benefits include making it easier to maintain or gain new lean muscle mass when combined with a healthy diet and exercise.
- CJC-1295 also makes it easier to lose weight or maintain weight, thanks to that boosted metabolism.
- Many people who are focusing on muscle growth and fitness see an increase in muscle strength while taking CJC-1295.
There may be additional benefits, but much of the study and data on CJC-1295 is still pending. However, to this point, the above CJC-1295 benefits have been observed and documented to varying extents. When combined with the relatively low rate of side effects from CJC-1295 (which we’ll discuss in the next section), this makes it a viable anti-aging medication to help offset the decline in human growth hormone production typically associated with aging.
CJC-1295 Side Effects
One of the biggest reasons why CJC-1295 is being embraced by so many in their anti-aging fight is because of the relatively low rate of side effects. As mentioned earlier, using human growth hormone is usually a high-risk proposition, with significant (and often severe) side effects. By contrast, CJC-1295 benefits and side effects have a much more harmonious relationship with one another. Most people tolerate CJC-1295 quite well, and side effects are generally mild if present at all. The most frequent side effect was injection site reaction – usually skin complaints or mild pain at the site of injection. In general, people taking the medication do not discontinue use due to side effects, and no significant adverse reactions were noted in most tests. The common side effects of CJC-1295 that were observed in drug trials and studies include:
- Sensitivity, soreness, or pain at the injection site
- Flu-like symptoms
- Hives or other skin reactions
- Difficulty swallowing
How to Obtain CJC-1295
CJC-1295 is available via prescription, so it requires a visit to your doctor or healthcare provider, or a consultation with a qualified telemedicine provider, such as Invigor Medical. In all cases, after reviewing your anti-aging goals with your healthcare provider, discussing medications, conditions, diseases, and other potential contraindications, and so on, your provider can issue a prescription for CJC-1295. If you choose a telemedicine provider, these prescriptions can usually also be filled directly through the site and shipped to your home. Always review proper dosing and administration instructions with your prescriber, and follow any information provided with the prescribing leaflet accompanying your CJC-1295.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should you take CJC-1295?
Most prescribers direct that CJC-1295 be taken once daily, via subcutaneous injection (above the muscle, below the skin) in the stomach or abdominal region. Other prescribers recommend a “5 days a week” plan, either with skipping days every 2 or 3 days, or weekdays on, weekends off for injections. There is competing evidence as to the efficacy of these two dosing regimens, but in both cases, the effects of CJC-1295 – higher circulating levels of human growth hormone – tend to last for upwards of a week following administration and continue at that level so long as the administration continues a few times a week.
Why is CJC-1295 combined with Ipamorelin?
CJC-1295 is often combined with Ipamorelin in a 1:1 ratio for injection. There are various reasons for this from a scientific and functional standpoint. In short, Ipamorelin has a similar effect as CJC-1295 but works in a slightly different way, and on a different time table. It’s effectively the short-term version of CJC-1295, which has a half-life of a few hours, compared to the week or so half-life of CJC-1295. It goes to work right away, and just as its efficacy is starting to wane, the efficacy of CJC-1295 starts to kick in. This combined CJC-1295/Ipamorelin, therefore, provides a more steady release of natural human growth hormone production in the pituitary over time and therefore delivers more effective results for most people compared to CJC-1295 alone. Important in the context of CJC-1295 benefits and side effects, the introduction of Ipamorelin as a combined ingredient with CJC-1295 does not seem to cause any additional or increased incidence of side effects.
Are peptides safe to use?
Peptides generally are fairly safe to use – they are natural amino-acid compounds, many of which you may get in trace amounts or even large amounts through your diet. Unlike synthetic hormones, or those derived from human donors, peptides don’t directly act as hormones, but rather chemical messengers that trigger various responses in the body. In the case of CJC-1295, this includes triggering the pituitary to generate and release higher levels of human growth hormone than it otherwise would. While peptides are generally safe and have a low rate of side effects, they can be dangerous if misused or abused, and are therefore only available by prescription, under the supervision of a qualified doctor, healthcare provider, or telemedicine provider.
